Efficiency Comparison of DC and AC Coupling Solutions for Large-Scale PV+BESS Power Plants

In large-scale photovoltaic (PV) power plants, the integration of a battery energy storage system (BESS) permits more flexible operation, allowing plant to support grid stability. hybrid PV+BESS can be integrated by using different conversion (PCS) layouts and charge–discharge strategies. AC-coupling layout, BESS is connected ac-side through an additional inverter. DC-coupling dc-side, with or without dedicated dc–dc converter, no inverter needed. Referring 288 MWp PV 275 MWh BESS, this paper compares PCS efficiency between AC- solutions. The injected into obtained considering providing primary power-frequency regulation services. A charging discharging strategy proposed ensure cyclic shifting. flows in components that are under realistic operating conditions, total losses annual average calculated accordingly.
